Pools in Schools

Drowning is the second leading cause of accidental death among children under 14, and the leading cause of accidental death for children under the age of 5.”
- The American Institute for Preventative Medicine

A child can drown in the time it takes to answer the phone.
– U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.

As a member of the National Drowning Prevention Alliance, The Swim School offers a 30 minute, free, interactive water safety presentation that targets children ages 3-12. The Pools-In-Schools campaign informs children of the dangers that can occur when in and around water. It includes colorful posters that are of children who swim at The Swim School and have benefited from having water safety lessons. The presentation goes through specific rules that children need to know before they go swimming.
Water Safety Lessons Everyone Should Know

The presentation is open to any civic group with children of the ages 3-12 including schools, daycares, and churches. It is also strongly encouraged that parents and teachers attend to also become more informed about how dangerous water can truly be when someone is not prepared. This presentation contains important information that everyone should know when dealing with water. Life in Louisiana is full of activities that involve water, being prepared in case of an emergency will help keep these activities fun for everyone. “Drowning is preventable,” (National Drowning Prevention Alliance) and it is our job at The Swim School to ensure safety for our children in our community.
