Why it is important to teach children to swim

It is extremely important to teach your children to swim.  It can be a wonderful, healthy activity that provides exercise.  What's more, this ability can even save their lives.  Consider the following advantages.

It can protect them should they fall in a pool

A tragedy can happen when a child who does to know how to swim falls into a pool or canal.  It takes but a few minutes for disaster to occur, and giving your child swimming lessons or teaching them yourself can help protect them should they accidently fall into the water.  Such lessons are extremely important for anyone who has a pool in their home.  Even if you do not, there are still times when your child may accidently fall into some body of water.  Perhaps a friend of theirs has a pool. Perhaps there is a lake or canal nearby.  With so many bodies of water, it is important that children learn how to swim. 

Many parents decide to give their children swimming lessons or teach them themselves so that they can have this ability.  As your child gets older he or she may be invited to parties that involve the pool and he or she may stick out if they can't swim.  Also, some schools have a pool and the children may swim in that.  Your child probably does not want to be one of the few that doesn't have this ability.They may stand out from their friends if they do not know how to swim

It is a fun activity

Swimming is a lot of fun for children and adults alike.  It is nice to give this ability to your child so that they can have fun while doing it.

It is a great physical activity

It is important for children to get a lot of physical activity.  A lot of children spend far too much time in front of a television nowadays.  Swimming is a great activity to do outside and enjoy the fresh air. 

It is important to be very careful when teaching your child how to swim.  Make sure you do not allow your child to go into the pool alone.  There should always be an adult present while they are learning.  Also, if you decide to do it yourself you might want to look up information on the correct way to teach this skill.  The above reasons highlight why this is an important skill to teach them.
